In Monmouth County nest site availability for ospreys (pandion haliaetus) has been severely limited by coastal development and habitat loss. In recent years ospreys have been nesting on many structures like channel markers, cell towers, boat lifts, and light poles that are not suitable for long term nesting success. On many of these nest sites the nesting material may be removed to deter ospreys from nesting on them.

In Monmouth County nest site availability for ospreys (pandion haliaetus) has been severely limited by coastal development and habitat loss. In recent years ospreys have been nesting on many structures like channel markers, cell towers, boat lifts, and light poles that are not suitable for long term nesting success. On many of these nest sites the nesting material may be removed to deter ospreys from nesting on them.
Our organization seeks to help enhance the nesting habitat for ospreys on the Sedge Islands to the west of Sea Bright and the surrounding area by installing 10-15 artificial nesting platforms.
Project Assistance & Partnership Opportunities
Approval
We need approval to place several platform on private property along the shoreline of the Shrewsbury River.
Volunteers
We need volunteers to help with all aspects of this project. Construction, transport, and installation. We also seek a place to construct the platforms near where they will be installed.
Funding
We seek $2,000 in funding to purchase materials for construction of the platforms, for transportation, and installation.
